Easter Cross Bread – Super Simple Recipe!

Ingredients:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

½ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

½ cup milk

For the Cross:

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons water

Instructions:

1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a separate bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add Eggs & Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.

5. Combine Wet & Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined (don’t overmix!).

6. Make the Cross: On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12x8 inch rectangle. Using the cross ingredients (flour and water), make a cross shape in the middle of the rectangle. Pinch the edges slightly to secure.

7. Bake: Carefully transfer the cross loaf to the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
